Corridor of Famer David Ortiz, the previous Boston Red Sox star, backs Boston third baseman Rafael Devers within the third base controversy that arose earlier this week after the workforce’s signing of Alex Bregman. And he is spot-on.
On Monday, Devers mentioned the hot corner is his position after reporters asked him whether he’d be OK playing elsewhere to make room for Bregman, who won the Gold Glove at third for the Houston Astros last season.
“You are not talking about just another ballplayer,” Ortiz told Z101 Digital recently. “You are talking about Rafael Devers, the present David Ortiz-type participant the Purple Sox have.”
