Re: “Restaurant industry scrambles as new minimum wage approaches” [July 17, Business]:
I used to be disenchanted on the dismissive and, certainly, “unsympathetic” perspective that small companies equivalent to Portage Bay Café (hardly a titan of the restaurant world) have been “screwing employees” and “don’t need to be in enterprise,” expressed by David Rolf, former president of SEIU 775 and co-chair of the committee for a $15 minimal wage.
Whereas workers of the small eating places that do handle to outlive might notice increased wages, the true winners in the end would be the massive restaurant companies, who’ve the dimensions and clout to face up to these wage will increase. I’ve at all times thought considered one of Seattle’s values was supporting the “underdog” towards bigger companies. I concern that this legislation, whereas well-intentioned, will, over time, have the unintended consequence of the other.
