Re: “More concrete, less green: Southpark’s cautionary tale” (Jan. 26, Opinion):
Alex Fryer’s column is a jaw-dropping, eye-opening, heartbreaking upzoning story. The One Seattle Complete Plan is deeply flawed and leans far too near developer pockets. Seattleites, take notice: Now could be the time to voice your opinion to the Seattle Metropolis Council earlier than a Feb. 5 public listening to.
The plan hurts individuals and timber, significantly in neighborhoods impacted by racial and financial injustice. However the plan might have an effect on the lot subsequent door to you or me. Builders can squeeze six properties onto a small lot with sidewalks in-between, leaving little to no house for inexperienced — and definitely no tall timber.
Inexperienced is wholesome. Inexperienced is required. Seattle ranks within the high 5 amongst cities with the best common city warmth island index per capita.
The Seattle I do know and love is a wholesome mixture of housing and inexperienced house. I’m positive many agree. That isn’t what Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell is envisioning with this plan, sadly being closely swayed by developer greed.
I’m personally livid. Seattle residents must take notice, get up, say one thing, do one thing earlier than it’s too late. Write to your council member, attend the listening to Feb. 5 or begin kissing inexperienced Seattle goodbye.
