SINGAPORE: Two crew members on an Australian ship had been injured on Friday (Aug 30) after it was hit by a Singapore-flagged container vessel at Perth’s Fremantle Port.
The container ship, Maersk Shekou, hit the stationary ship STS Leeuwin II at about 6.20am Singapore time, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) mentioned in an announcement.
Maersk Shekou was transferring into the harbour when the incident occurred. The ship was assisted by 4 tugs and was underneath pilotage on the time, which implies it was guided by a mariner by native waters.
STS Leeuwin II, Australia’s largest sail-training ship, was berthed on the port. Its mast collapsed after being hit.
The hull of the container ship was broken.
The Maritime Museum’s roof was additionally reportedly broken.
