Russia’s Pulkovo airport in St Petersburg briefly halted flight arrivals and departures from 7.45am native time (12.45pm Singapore time) on Saturday (Jan 4) to make sure the protection of civilian plane, Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia mentioned.
It didn’t specify a purpose for the choice to halt flights, however Russian airports have beforehand closed when there’s a threat of Ukrainian drone strikes within the space.
Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the northern Leningrad area containing St Petersburg, mentioned Russian forces had shot down two drones close to Luga Bay within the gulf of Finland.
“The airport is briefly not accepting or dispatching flights,” a Rosaviatsia consultant wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
“Plane crews, air site visitors controllers and airport companies are taking all obligatory measures to make sure flight security – that is the highest precedence.”
