MOSCOW: Russia stated on Monday (Sep 16) that its forces had retaken management of two villages in its western Kursk area from Ukraine, persevering with what Moscow says is a major counter-offensive there.
Russian forces have been battling Ukrainian troops in Kursk area since Aug 6, when Kyiv shocked Moscow with the most important international assault on Russian soil since World Struggle Two.
Reuters couldn’t independently confirm the report by Russia’s Defence Ministry that its troops had retaken the settlements of Uspenovka and Borki. They lie about 20km aside on the border with Ukraine’s Sumy area.
A senior Russian commander and pro-Kremlin conflict bloggers stated final week that Russia had taken again management of about 10 settlements within the area – an assertion Reuters was unable to verify.
Ukraine says its forces management about 100 villages in Kursk over an space of greater than 1,300 sq km, which Russian sources dispute.
