To the editor: As my expensive spouse lay at UCLA Medical Middle in Santa Monica, racked with the most cancers that might finish her life, she was given a thrill that she spoke of to the tip (‘Show up and share’: How one UCLA ICU helps patients and staff live with dying,” March 20). It was our forty second marriage ceremony anniversary, and he or she actually tried to placed on a courageous and blissful face, nevertheless it was so laborious. Then, to our delight, simply on the shift change, a gaggle of nurses and aides walked into her room, adorned us with social gathering hats and sang “blissful anniversary” to us. That introduced a smile to my darling woman that I’ll always remember.
That’s solely one of many myriad acts of kindness that we skilled at UCLA. Our household and I’ll always remember the humanity and respect with which we have been handled by that employees — from the individuals who empty the trash to the highest-ranking docs, nurses, doctor assistants and different healthcare suppliers. There’s a lot extra to treating the sick than drugs.
