Illinois State Rep. State Dan Caulkins lately filed HB 5875, which might penalize people who knowingly register noncitizens to vote in federal and municipal elections within the state.
HB 5875 reads: “Amends the Election Code. Offers that, besides as in any other case supplied by federal legislation, any one who shouldn’t be a citizen of the US and who knowingly registers to vote or knowingly votes in an election, together with a municipal election, shall be responsible of a Class 4 felony. Offers that, besides as in any other case supplied by federal legislation, any one who knowingly registers an individual to vote who shouldn’t be a citizen of the US shall be responsible of a Class 4 felony. Caulkins’s transfer comes after the revelation that the Oregon DMV admitted to wrongfully registering a minimum of 306 noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections.
In keeping with Fox News, “The DMV says the wrongful registrations have occurred since 2021 and have been the results of a program that mechanically registered anybody who obtained a driver’s license or state ID. State officers say they look forward to finding extra wrongful registrations forward of Election Day.”
State Rep. Dan Caulkins mentioned he’s involved with non-government organizations, aiding non residents residing in migrant shelters and are knowingly registering noncitizens to vote regardless of federal legislation prohibiting noncitizens from registering and voting in federal elections.
