In a joint assertion, the Workplace of the Director of Nationwide Intelligence, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Safety Company stated the Russian exercise was a part of “Moscow’s broader effort to boost unfounded questions concerning the integrity of the US election and stoke divisions amongst People”.
Disinformation researchers have already highlighted a multipronged effort to sow chaos and sway voters forward of the November 5 election – from pro-Russian bot accounts on the platform X to pro-Kremlin websites masquerading as “information” shops and influencers allegedly on Moscow’s payroll.
Darren Linvill, a disinformation knowledgeable at Clemson College, stated the newest video bore the hallmarks of the Russian propaganda community Storm-1516.
“They had been very cautious in how they filmed it to not give something away” to digital sleuths, stated Linvill, who has carefully studied the group.
“Importantly, in addition they use what are possible West African actors, often recruited from the Saint Petersburg space,” he informed AFP.
