JERUSALEM: A bomb blast in Tel Aviv late on Sunday has been confirmed as a terrorist assault, Israeli police and the Shin Wager home intelligence company stated on Monday (Aug 19).
The person carrying the bomb, which exploded close to a synagogue, was killed and a passerby was injured, in accordance with police on the scene.
“It could now be confirmed that this was a terror assault,” police and Shin Wager stated in a joint assertion on Monday.
Sunday’s explosion took place an hour after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv to push for a ceasefire in Gaza that may finish the 10-month-old conflict between Israel and Hamas.
There was elevated urgency to succeed in a ceasefire deal amid fears of an escalation throughout the broader area. Iran has threatened to retaliate towards Israel after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Jul 31.
Israel has not claimed accountability for his dying.
