CAIRO: Egypt will host a summit of Arab nations on Feb 27 to debate “the most recent severe developments” regarding the Palestinian territories, its international ministry stated in a press release on Sunday (Feb 9).
The “emergency Arab summit” comes as Egypt has been rallying regional help towards United States President Donald Trump’s plan to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan whereas establishing US management over the coastal territory.
Sunday’s assertion stated the gathering was known as “after in depth consultations by Egypt on the highest ranges with Arab international locations in current days, together with Palestine, which requested the summit, to handle the most recent severe developments concerning the Palestinian trigger”.
That included coordination with Bahrain, which at present chairs the Arab League, the assertion stated.
On Friday, Egyptian Overseas Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke with regional companions together with Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to shore up opposition to any pressured displacement of Palestinians from their land.
Final week, Trump floated the thought of US administration over Gaza, envisioning rebuilding the devastated territory into the “Riviera of the Center East” after resettling Palestinians elsewhere, particularly Egypt and Jordan.
The remarks have prompted international backlash, and Arab international locations have firmly rejected the proposal, insisting on a two-state answer with an unbiased Palestinian state alongside Israel.
