AMSTERDAM: The Netherlands commemorated the 298 victims of flight MH17 that was shot down over Ukraine 10 years in the past with a ceremony attended by the bereaved and representatives from Malaysia, Australia, the UK, Belgium and Ukraine.
Malaysian Airways Flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over jap Ukraine on Jul 17, 2014, as combating raged between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces, the precursor of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
All passengers and crew on board, together with 196 Dutch residents, have been killed, leaving the aircraft’s wreckage and the stays of the victims scattered throughout fields of corn and sunflowers.
In the course of the ceremony, which passed off on the MH17 monument within the village of Vijfhuizen close to Amsterdam, family members learn out loud the names of all of the victims.
