Re: “Religious freedom must be maintained during protests” (April 9, Editorials):
I used to be gobsmacked to study {that a} considerate and balanced state Senate invoice designed to permit people to protest — however not willfully or recklessly intervene with an individual’s entry to a spot of worship — was defeated by a Home committee charged with overseeing, no much less, “group security”! It handed the Senate and not using a single vote in opposition to it. Anti-Muslim bigotry and antisemitism are rampant, but the necessity for folk to peaceably protest is essential. This invoice truly addressed each.
Our state Home was cowardly in not a minimum of placing Sen. Jesse Salomon’s invoice to a full vote. Nor did they even hassle to draft another. Disgrace on the Home Committee on Group Security.
