NEW YORK/WASHINGTON: US Lawyer Basic Pamela Bondi directed federal prosecutors to hunt the demise penalty for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s insurance coverage division, in New York final 12 months.
In a press release, Mangione’s lawyer Karen Friedman Agnifilo referred to as the choice to hunt the demise penalty “barbaric.”

Mangione faces a parallel federal indictment in Manhattan federal courtroom over Thompson’s killing. He may face the demise penalty if convicted in that case. He has not but been requested to enter a plea to the federal expenses.
If Mangione is convicted within the federal case, the jury would decide in a separate section of the trial whether or not to advocate the demise penalty. Any such advice have to be unanimous, and the choose can be required to impose it.
